About Our Nordic Fashion Brand
AITI’s founder Ritva Kariniemi began her extensive career after moving from her native Finland to study at London College of Fashion in the late 1970’s. After completing her education, Ritva stayed on to work with designers such as Bill Gibb and Benny Ong. Gaining invaluable experience, she began designing for manufacturers known for supplying to popular high street shops.
In 1984, Extravert by Ritva Kariniemi was born. A collection which reinvented the use of Lycra in fashion by specialising in women’s stretch, drape separates and knits. After years of growing in popularity, Extravert was recognised and received the prestigious Queen’s Award for Export Achievement in 1991. Following Extravert’s success, Ritva had two self-named, standalone shops in Japan.
The name ÄITI, meaning ‘Mother’ in Finnish, was inspired by the personal experience of motherhood for Ritva. After establishing a career in interior design, she decided to return to her roots of Nordic Fashion and knitwear in 2016. The vision for AITI was simple: to create and produce timeless, yet wearable and affordable knitwear that will outlive fashion fads. Ritva embodies the Nordic Style with the use of sustainably sourced materials such as wool, cotton and cashmere that have co-ordinated scarves and shawls for a completed look.
We give great importance to sustainable and fair-trade production processes. Working solely with factories that have a track record for these, e.g. a factory in China and a family run business in Nepal that goes to great lengths to ensure fair trade and a community-focused supply chain. They do this, at no expense to their luxurious cashmere yarn – which is selected and imported from Mongolia to later be manufactured into superior knitwear at their production site in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Keeping in close contact with her two factories, Ritva designs the clothing and co-ordinates the samples and production from AITI’s West London office.
Deliveries are via our courier UK Mail.
We offer free next-day delivery (Monday-Friday) on all our products ordered before 13:00hrs.
Placing your order on a Friday and need it delivered by Saturday? That’s not a problem, for a small fee of just £6 we offer next-day delivery on Saturdays for all orders placed before 13:00hrs on a Friday.
The night before delivery you will be notified that their delivery is due the following day. You will then have the option to reschedule the delivery day, leave the parcel in a safe place or arrange to collect from their local UK Mail depot by using the ‘Change it’ options
On delivery morning, an estimated one hour delivery window is confirmed by email or text
If we deliver the parcel to a neighbour or leave in a secure location UK Mail will leave a card to confirm and send a notification with the delivery details.

EXCHANGES & RETURNS
You have the right to cancel your order in writing within 7 days of delivery of the goods. You will need to return the item(s) by post. Once returned we will refund all items undamaged, unused and with all labels and tags intact.
If returns are damaged, soiled, washed, worn (other than trying the item on) or alternated the products may not be accepted and may be sent back to the customer and/or a refund refused.
If you are not entirely happy with your order you can return your item(s) to us within 7 days of receipt. We will be happy to offer you an exchange or a refund provided that the products are returned complete, in perfect condition, unused, unwashed and with the original packaging. We aim to process all refunds within 7 days of receipt of goods. Discounted items cannot be returned and only exchanged for another item(s). If there isn’t a suitable item(s) available at the time, a credit note can be issued for future purchases.
Please email to claim a returns or exchange address label and state a reason as to why you are returning or exchanging the item(s).
We can only offer exchanges for alternative sizes or colours of the same product and all exchanges are subject to availability on return of goods. Please identify if you would like a return or exchange on the return note.
Please ensure that all items are returned clean, unworn and have all of their tags and original packaging.
